SCHEDULE & CONTROL PROCEDURES
Effective schedule planning and control is an absolute requirement in order that the work can be successfully planned, controlled, monitored and completed on budget and on time.
The Geertsma Group of Companies will establish a master control design/construction schedule utilizing a scheduling program which generates a networked critical path bar chart. This schedule will identify design and construction activities with a duration time, a start date, and an end date. Tasks on the critical path will be linked together to provide progress control. Sub-trades and suppliers will be required to commit their performance to the schedule by confirming delivery dates and by setting milestone dates for key events which are in agreement with the schedule. The superintendent will track the actual schedule daily against the proposed schedule, and this will be reviewed in detail at site meetings. The regular site meetings, held every two weeks, with minutes recorded, are a valuable tool in the control of the Project.
Similarly, a shop drawing submission schedule will be determined. The schedule will identify and establish dates for specific items requiring submission of shop drawings, product data or certification. This schedule will complement, and be reviewed and tracked together with, the progress schedule.
The Project Manager will have responsibility to see that these schedules are prepared, implemented, tracked and updated. Should any critical activity run behind schedule, the Project Manager will determine and undertake appropriate corrective action to bring the project back on schedule.
Communication and solution of problems before they happen, accountability for commitments made, and good planning through scheduling, job site log reports, regular site meetings, and clear communication of speedy decisions will move the project steadily forward to a successful conclusion.
