The Geertsma Group of companies originated in the 1960's as Marten Geertsma Masonry, which was incorporated in 1976 as Geertsma Masonry Ltd. As our primary focus of work and expertise continued to evolve, the company was later renamed Geertsma Construction Ltd. in 1985. In 1988, the company was split into three divisions, separating our Home Building, Development, and Construction arms with Geertsma Construction (1988) Ltd. taking on the role as Design/Builder, Project Manager, and General Contractor and Geertsma Homes Ltd. moving ahead in the residential sector.
The Geertsma Group of Companies offer a hands on, highly focused team approach to clients in the residential, institutional, commercial, and industrial sectors of the construction industry. Our qualified office and field staff, together with associate consultants, provide design and construction services which are second to none.
Our experience includes condominiums, churches, penitentiary work, offices, historic building renovations, factories, specialized storage structures, health care facilities, multi-story/residential apartments, group homes, schools, retail stores, banks, and single family custom homes. We also have some experience in the construction of motels, restaurants and fire halls.
In addition to experienced administrative support personnel, our office staff includes a Professional Engineer and two Civil Technologists, one Architectural Drafting Technologist and one Architectural Technologist, having broad expertise in estimating and project management, which is regularly updated by available professional development programs. Two of our staff have been certified under the Gold Seal Certificate Program developed by the Canadian Construction Association.
Our field superintendents have first aid and WHMIS training, receive regular ongoing seminars in construction safety, and are encouraged to participate in developing their skills through superintendent certification courses promoted by the Ontario General Contractors Association.
Our focus on providing value to our clients has directed our continuing efforts to remain at the forefront of computer technology for the construction industry. Since 1986, we have maintained computerized job cost control for all projects enabling us to track actual versus budgeted costs. Our progress schedules are maintained and updated using a Primavera computerized scheduling program called "SureTrak".
